How Is Polyurethane Sheet Made

May 28, 2024

Polyurethane sheets are made using a process called the prepolymer method, which is widely used in most factories today. The raw material workshop pre-produces polyurethane prepolymer and stores it in sealed iron drums. We are also supplier of  polyurethane prepolymer. During production, the prepolymer is placed in an oven, heated to 85-90 degrees Celsius to melt, and then added to the casting machine, along with a proportionate amount of curing agent. Once the temperature is adjusted, the mixture can be cast. There are various types of molding equipment, with three types available in our workshop including centrifugal oven, flat oven, and vertical oven. After the mixing with the curing agent, the polyurethane prepolymer is vulcanized in the oven for several minutes allowing it to take shape. It then needs to undergo secondary vulcanization for 16-24 hours, followed by several days of storage at room temperature, before reaching the required performance level. The polyurethane sheets can be rolled or cut into blocks according to customer requirements, and are then ready for packaging. This is how polyurethane sheets are manufactured using the prepolymer method.
